The WinGate issue

At home I have a connection to the Internet via a Wingate proxy server from one neighbour (don't ask). Well, for applications like web browsers this connection works fine but for applications that use another ports to connect the internet is necessary a WinGate client on the PC. Well, this client only works on Windows ... so in Linux I can not connect ftp clients, can't read neither send mails, can't access my servers via ssh, can't connect to the irc, etc. The solution was easy: to install Linux on the machine with the wingate proxy, but I don't think my neighbour would like this method. So, i had to search the web for another solution.
Today I've found desproxy, a tiny application which connects to the internet any software that needs it. Well, not really "any software" but at least I could check my mail and do all the ssh stuff. Desproxy works like a tunnel between the applicaction, the wingate proxy and the Internet.
Forget to say, some linux apps, i.e. apt-get, works fine with http proxies like WinGate, but other apps just don't want to know anything with http proxies so desproxy is the only solution in such cases.
